Frequently Asked Questions About Groups

Can I host a group of my own?

Yes! Hosting a group is simple — choose a topic or activity that interests you and select a time and location to meet with others to share it. We give you tools to make your group successful through leader training and a directory where you can register your group so others can find it easily.

Why groups?

You and I were made for this! You’ve probably seen groups meeting and not even realized it. A group looks like friends at lunch, teams playing basketball, outdoor activities, or people studying a book or topic of interest in a class setting. At its core, a group is a small gathering of people, and it is less about what you do and more about who you do it with. By participating in groups, you can expect to connect with others through a common activity, engage in life giving conversation, and request and receive prayer and sincere care.

How often do groups meet?

Our groups operate generally on a quarterly basis throughout the year (fall, winter,  spring, and summer. There may also be groups that are ongoing making it easy to commit to a group and/or make shifts as needed. Some groups will meet every week, some bi-weekly or even monthly. Some may gather at special times and at different times. Groups are meant to bring meaning and community into the flow of our life, so even if you can’t attend every meeting, there is still great value in connecting to a group.

Where do groups meet?

Groups happen throughout our communities, in homes, community rooms, restaurants, outdoors, etc..

How long does a typical group stay together?

Most groups meet for a limited time. This way, new people can connect easily and regularly. Also, the quarterly format allows you to try multiple groups each year. As relationships form, some groups choose to stay together for consecutive quarters. Because of limited space, differing activities, and other reasons, groups may set maximum sizes. You will find information on whether a particular group is open or closed on our website.

Is there childcare available?

Childcare varies from group to group. When you search our directory for a group, the group profile will indicate if childcare is available or whether you can simply bring your kids. (We DO have childcare available for Wednesday Night Discipleship Classes, however.)

What if I don’t like the first group I try?

The truth is, not everyone will find the best fit with the first group they try. This is why we encourage you to select a few groups that interest you, contact the leaders and try out different groups before choosing the best one for you. The simple strategy to finding success in small groups is to not give up. We believe there is a group that is right for everyone — including you!
